The OASPA Open Scholarship Webinar Series is delighted to welcome three experts leading global initiatives that enable to take pragmatic steps towards implementing a data sharing policy for their authors. Join us to hear more about how others are managing the sharing of data, or to learn more to help you on your journey to setting up your own policy. 

Iain Hrynaszkiewicz (Springer Nature Head of Data Publishing) will focus on the work of the RDA Interest Group on Data policy standardisation and implementation and discuss real case examples from Springer-Nature and other . Tina Lee (PI and Project Coordinator of the Belmont Forum e-Infrastructures and Data Management (e-I&DM) Project) will present the Belmont Forum Data Access Policy and Template Statement, co-developed by the Belmont Forum and the science publishing community. Shelley Stall (Director for American Geophysical Union’s Data Programs) will show it’s possible to get all the stakeholders in an entire discipline behind Enabling FAIR Data.

Panelist biographies:

Iain Hrynaszkiewicz is Head of Data Publishing at Springer Nature where his team develops research data policies and services across Springer Nature. He is also publisher of Nature Research Group’s Scientific Data journal. He leads and contributes to community initiatives and working groups on data sharing and reproducible research and is Programme Chair of the conference, Better Science through Better Data. He has published numerous articles related to data sharing, open access, and open data – one of which has been cited more than 180 times.

Tina Lee is PI and a Project Coordinator of the Belmont Forum e-Infrastructures and Data Management (e-I&DM) Project. She also serves as the User Engagement Officer for CyVerse, a U.S. National Science Foundation cyberinfrastructure project to enable data-driven discovery for life sciences research. As a social scientist with a background in ecology and environmental science, she is interested in the role that cyberinfrastructures and technology play in making international transdisciplinary collaborations work (or not). As part of the Collaboration, Coordination & Communication Office (C3O) of the e-I&DM project, she supported the collaborative efforts of the multidisciplinary e-I&DM team to operationalize Belmont Forum’s Open Data Policy & Principles.

Shelley Stall is the Senior Director for the American Geophysical Union’s Data Leadership Programs. She works with AGU’s members, their organizations, and the broader scientific community to improve data management practices with the ultimate goal of elevating how research data is managed and valued. Better data management results in better science. Shelley’s diverse experience as a program and project manager, software architect, database architect, performance and optimization analyst, data product provider, and data integration architect provides her with a core capability to guide the development of practical and sustainable data management practices ready for adoption and adapting by the scientific community. Her recent work includes the Enabling FAIR Data project engaging over 300 stakeholders in the Earth, space, and environmental sciences community to make data open and FAIR.

Catriona MacCallum – @catmacOA – is Director of Open Science at Hindawi. She has 20 years experience in scholarly publishing and 15 years in Open Access Publishing. She has a PhD from Edinburgh University and went into publishing as a professional Editor initially working for Elsevier, where she was Editor of Trends in Ecology & Evolution, before joining the Open-Access publisher PLOS in 2003 to launch PLOS Biology as one of the Senior Editors. She also acted as a Consulting Editor on PLOS ONE, leaving PLOS as Advocacy Director in 2017. She is currently a member of the European Commission’s Open Science Policy Platform and the UKRI Open Access Practitioners Group. She serves on the Advisory Board of the Royal Society (Publishing), and is on the steering committee of the relaunched DORA initiative. She is a founding individual of the I4OC (Initiative for Open Citations) campaign.

Claire Redhead – @OASPA – is Executive Director of OASPA. Her publishing background began back in 2000. Editorial positions in UK publishing houses in the 12 years that followed provided her with valuable opportunities for developing key skills and varied experience in the academic journal and book publishing industry.  In 2012 Claire joined the Open Access Scholarly Publishers Association (OASPA), initially responsible for managing membership and communications for the organisation. Claire quickly took the lead to develop and grow OASPA during this time, and was appointed Executive Director of the association in 2016.
