OASPA welcomes new members in 2017

OASPA is pleased to have welcomed a number of new members this year. Our five new small professional publisher members include the Beilstein-Institut, a Frankfurt-based non-profit foundation established in 1951 by the Max Planck Society that supports information and communication through projects in chemistry and related disciplines. Also new to OASPA is Protocols.io, an open access repository of science methods with more than 1,300 protocols publicly available online. African Minds, a not-for-profit open access publisher publishing predominantly in the social sciences, features authors who are typically African academics or organisations. Now publishing around 67 open access books, African Minds offers innovative approaches to publishing and seeks to grow and deepen the African knowledge base. Compuscript Ltd, a publishing solutions company founded in 1991 providing a range of editorial, production and multimedia publishing services, works with journal development consultants around the world and now hosts two journals. The Open Library of Humanities (OLH), a charitable organisation launched in 2013, is dedicated to publishing open access scholarship with no author-facing article processing charges (APCs). The OLH supports academic journals from across the humanities disciplines; it publishes ten journals and sponsors a further five.

Joining OASPA as a medium professional publisher this year, Ivyspring International Publisher is dedicated to the rapid dissemination of scientific knowledge and discoveries to the global research, academic and professional community, and currently hosts nine journals. New to our large professional publisher category is De Gruyter, which publishes over 1,300 new titles each year in the humanities, social sciences, STM and law, more than 700 subscription based or open Access journals, and a variety of digital products.

We are also pleased to welcome six new scholar to OASPA. They include Research in Applied Business and Economics, a forum for academic papers in business and economics issued by the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration of the University of Iceland, and Language Under Discussion, a peer-reviewed journal devoted to promoting open-minded debate on central questions in the study of language from all relevant disciplinary and theoretical perspectives. Ariadna Ediciones, set up in Santiago in Chile in 2004, specialises in open access publishing in Chile and abroad in the areas of the humanities, arts and social sciences. The Journal of Nepal Medical Association, an official scientific publication of the Nepal Medical Association, is Nepal’s first and oldest medical journal. Res Rhetorica is run by the Polish Rhetoric Society, which was established in 2000 as an association of academics whose research involves the theory and practice of rhetoric in historical and contemporary settings. The journal features research on rhetoric as the theory and practice of persuasive communication. Finally, Clinical Practice and Cases in Emergency Medicine (CPC-EM) is published by the Department of Emergency Medicine at University of California Irvine Health, offering the latest in patient care case reports and images in the field of emergency medicine.

Other commercial organisations joining OASPA include Enago, who provide academic English editing services to English as a Second Language authors from more than 125 countries, the Aries Systems Corporation, which was founded in 1986 and provides workflow infrastructure solutions for scholarly . Access Innovations, Inc offers information management and database construction products and services for academic institutions, government agencies, and industry, and also offers specialised knowledge domains for licensing.
