The American Physiological Society (APS) publishes journals and books in many disciplines within physiology. The Society’s 16 distinguished scientific journals are dedicated to the advancement of physiological research, which has formed the basis for many biomedical advances. These highly regarded, peer-reviewed journals examine major physiological systems from the cellular and molecular to the organ and system level and meet the needs of research investigators, educators, and information specialists interested in the physiological sciences. APS journals are published and distributed by APS. Physiology, formerly News in Physiological Sciences, is jointly owned by APS and the International Union of Physiological Sciences. Physiological Reports, an open access journal, is jointly owned by the APS and The Physiological Society, and published on the Societies’ behalf by Wiley. In April 2020, APS launched Function, a high-caliber, open-access, online-only journal published in partnership with Oxford University Press.APS also publishes The Physiologist Magazine, and highly regarded Handbook of Physiology is currently published as Comprehensive Physiology for APS by Wiley.he American Physiological Society (APS) is a nonprofit devoted to fostering education, scientific research, and dissemination of information in the physiological sciences. The Society was founded in 1887 with 28 members. APS now has over 10,500 members. Most members have doctoral degrees in physiology and/or medicine (or other health professions).APS is governed by an elected Council consisting of a President, President-Elect, Past President, and nine Councillors. The National headquarters of the Society is based in Rockville, Maryland.APS is a member of the Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology (FASEB), a coalition of 26 independent societies that plays an active role in lobbying for the interests of biomedical scientists.

The APS Open Access (AuthorChoice) program was developed to allow researcher authors the ability to provide immediate, open and free access to their work without the standard 12-month embargo that applies to subscription access.Articles published with the Open Access (AuthorChoice) option are covered by the Creative Commons Attributions license (CC BY 4.0), under which all are eligible for reuse and distribution under the condition that the original work published by APS must be cited.

Article Processing FeesColor fees are waived for all authors. A fixed article-processing fee replaces page charges (see chart below)An 18% discount will be applied to the fixed article processing fee for articles whose first or last authors are APS Regular or Graduate Student members in good standing at the date the article is accepted The fixed article fee will be invoiced following acceptance of the article By signing the Mandatory Submission Form, the author agrees to pay article-processing charges following acceptance.A large number of changes made by authors in proof may be subject to additional charges Publication fees will not be refunded when articles are retracted as a result of author error or misconduct.No article processing fees will apply to the following:Reviews, mini-reviews, perspectives, editorials, letters All content in Physiological Reviews, Physiology, and Advances in Physiology Education

Peer ReviewAcceptance of manuscripts is based on scientific content and presentation of the material; membership in the Society is not a prerequisite for publication. Reviewers also will assess the manuscript, and any supporting information, for transparent reporting of methods and validation of key reagents. Please be sure that all raw data are saved and available upon request.
