Publication Charge Policy
We calculate article processing charges (APCs) on a page-by-page basis. This results in average article prices from €500 to €1,300 (please see https://publications.copernicus.org/apc_information.html. Every journal has a budget of free pages (10% of the pages published in the previous year). This page budget can be assigned by the chief editor of each journal to authors lacking support of funds. Additionally, Copernicus Publications has several institutional agreements with research institutions and universities regarding the direct payment of APCs for first or corresponding authors from these institutions (http://publications.copernicus.org/for_authors/financial_support.html).

Peer Review Policy
per journal (/peer_review/)

Our approach is to provide editors, reviewers, and authors with the review tools to work independently in each phase of the workflow. Therefore, Copernicus Publications provides the online journal review system Copernicus Office Editor. This system is developed and maintained in-house to allow a degree of flexibility in the adaptation of specific review workflows from different disciplines and communities. The system is fully web-based, and users only need to use their internet browser and email account.

We offer two types of peer review. In addition to the traditional peer review, we also offer an innovative two-stage publication process encompassing our Interactive Public Peer Review to foster scientific discussion and to enhance the effectiveness and transparency of scientific quality assurance. In the first stage, manuscripts that pass a swift access review are posted as preprints (discussion papers) in the journal’s discussion forum.. They are then subject to interactive public discussion, during which the referees’ comments (anonymous or attributed), additional short comments by other members of the scientific community (attributed), and the authors’ replies are published. In the second stage, the peer-review process is completed; if accepted, the final revised papers are published in the journal. To ensure publication precedence for authors, and to provide a lasting record of scientific discussions, the discussion forum and the journal are both ISSN-registered, permanently archived, and fully citable. In both processes, the topical editor nominates at least two independent referees to review the manuscript.
Initiatives
In a new cooperation with the TIB|AV-Portal of the National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) in Hanover, Germany, scientists who publish their articles with Copernicus Publications can present their research results in short, citable video abstracts and add video supplements to their articles.
