The OASPA annual conference brings the open access community together to discuss new developments and innovations in scholarly publishing, and unite in our shared goal to enable scholarly research to be openly accessible in line with our mission.
The 2024 conference will encourage participants to consider how we might all work towards truly equitable and inclusive open scholarship practices as well as address many timely and fundamental topics relating to open scholarly communication. The conference will be held September 16-18 in Lisbon, Portugal at the Altis Grand Hotel. This will be our first in-person conference in five years. We welcome participants for collective reflection and discussion.
The conference is curated by our Conference Committee (listed at the bottom of this post) with support from OASPA. Our call for panel session proposals is now open to the wider community. We would like to hear your suggestions for panels addressing how we progress equitable and inclusive open scholarship practices.
OASPA invites proposals to be submitted by the deadline of April 10, 2024. Panels are typically 60-90 minute sessions to include time for Q&A, with 3 – 4 panelists and a chairperson. The suggested panel should explore a key topic in open scholarship in depth by those with good working knowledge and/or understanding. We expect each panelist to offer a different perspective or viewpoint within the panel’s topic area.
Proposed panels may be practical involving case studies or lessons learned; be more explorative in nature looking at new initiatives or research or consider the wider future context of equitable open scholarship. Wherever possible we encourage evidence and data informed talks.
Proposals must be submitted via this form which asks for a brief description of your proposal as well as some other key information including suggested presenters. If a submission is successful, we expect the proposer to organise the panel with support from our Program Committee.
All proposals should be submitted by April 10, 2024. Registration costs for any panelists involved in successful proposals will be waived.
Proposals should not be promotional in nature. We ask that panels are diverse in terms of ethnicity and gender, and to ensure speakers include members of any communities under discussion. Travel and accommodation expense support is available for those from LMICs and more information will be provided to accepted speakers.
We particularly welcome submissions from beyond North America and Europe. Please share this call widely within your networks.
We look forward to receiving your suggestions!
